We arrived at a quiet anchorage off Carver's Beach after setting off from Lockeport the first morning. We had our first anchor beverage ceremony, a highly functional ceremony in which we range off of marks on the beach while drinking our anchor beverage, usually a cold beer. The functional purpose of the ceremony is to spend a good 10-15 minutes making sure the boat is securely anchored by observing the position of the boat carefully. At the same time we manage to celebrate the arrival at our new anchorage for the day and discuss any plans for going ashore. In this case we were interested in hiking up the creek that has its mouth on Carver's Beach. It was recommended in one of the cruising guides. As is often the case on our cruises, we managed to wander far up the creek, lose the trail, and eventually find a road with an uncertain destination. Several hours later we had rounded back to Carver's Beach. We were dead tired and ready for another classic dinner experience aboard Chaos. |
