Our departure point was Lockeport, Nova Scotia. After a flurry of preparation we set off in the fog to find Port Mouton and Carver's Beach. Before departure in the early morning hours, Dan and I engaged in our usual friendly competition of Nikon 35MM vs. digital point-and-shoot. My contention is that the speed and simplicity allows one to quickly catch the moment. At the risk of misquoting Dan, he feels the flexibility afforded by the many manual adjustments and the quality of the lenses and film carry the day. We have great fun testing out these ideas, as there are certainly occasions where one or the other strategy seems to come out ahead. All in all, I think Dan is probably right about the quality of the Nikon photos, but the added benefit of being able to very quickly transfer a reasonably high quality digital photo to the computer is very powerful for me. |
